Twitter see's the highest adoption rate in social media marketing while customer reviews rank number one for increasing sales and customer engagement, according to a study released Thursday! Retailers are revving up their social media marketing efforts as the past six months show aggressive adoption of the emerging trend with Facebook and Twitter leading the way, according to the report. The trend coincides with the uptick in the community base of these sites and Facebook just passed up the three hundred million mark providing a large audience for retailers to tap with branding efforts. Still, Facebook and Twitter aren't the only social media being employed by marketers to promote their brands. The other top tools include Twitter Publishing with sixty five percent saying they currently use it, customer reviews and blogs followed by viral videos with fifty percent.
In addition, the study found three-fourths of the 117 survey respondents have accelerated their use of, and commitment to, community and social media in the past six months. First, brands want to be involved to put their own spin on their products and services from consumers already using sites such as Facebook. Second, retailers want to be seen as up to date in their online presence so as not to appear as using old marketing techniques. The third reason cited by participants in the study is the fear that their customers will leave their e-commerce site for others that are more socially engaging. These motivators, drove the last wave of social media adoption, will also be driving the next one in the coming year. Over the next 12 months, 31 percent of study respondents say they plan to adopt Facebook Connect while 26 percent say they will employ customer reviews and 26 percent will begin offering product suggestions.

Congress Streams live on Facebook
On Janurary 4, 2011 the US Congress made its live broadcast debut on Facebook with the legislative body's first session was streamed on the social networking site. House Speaker John Boehner annouced the descion to do so on "Pledge to America" Facebook page and were able to watch the House of Representatives transition over to Republican control. Online viewers were able to watch all the floor proceeders and Boehner's first speech as Speaker of the House and had the ability to comment on the ideas and events as they occured on the networking site. Boehner's director of ditigal media Nick Schaper told CNN that the real time stream would help set the tone for a new majority that will continue to find new ways to listen and better represent the American people. With all this being done it will help to better improve the involvment of American citizens with questions and comments they may have with on going issues and situations going on in society today. Boehner and his active team of soical media users have a blog on their website which currently features a post about the live stream and future live streams to come not only on Facebook but on Twitter and Youtube alike! He has also said he will change his Twitter to help reflect his new position and hopes other leaders will also switch to this new line of Congress stream for the 112th Congress's official start. I think this is a great development for Congress to take the steps nessacary to get the American public more involved with situations that need to be addressed and getting them taken care of in the near future.

Facebook and its private policy humans cant read
Facebook is by far the future for all social media aspects. It has grown to be the number one website for not only college students but people of all ages to make a profile and see whats going on with others in their lives. The private policy for new users however is hard to read and understand, the new site policies about the outlines has been rewritten and reformatted in a way that makes it easy for non lawyers to understand. Facebook however has agreed in finding that any privacy framework must be implemented in a way that both honors consumers expectations in which they use online services and promotes the innovations that has fueled the growth of the internet over the last two decades. The site has also explained the rationale behind the new human friendly draft of its policy on its site governance page by settling upon a few basic principle when trying to figure out what new users want with their private policy.
These principles are: first it should be easy to understand, even when the concept is complicated, secondly it should be visual and interactive because thats the way people use the web today. Lastly it should focus on the questions Facebook users are most likely to ask, because it makes it relevant. I hope this blog helps with new users who are about to make a profile on Facebook and with any questions you may have about the privacy policies!

Successful Social Media campaignes
The campaign commercial, in which the “Old Spice guy” aka actor Isaiah Mustafa who is a well known social media campaigner, he starred in most of all the Old Spice’s recent commercials. He has come to be known on the Internet and T.V. but that ended today. In his tweet on tweeter, Mustafa says, “like all great things this too must end”, then he catches a giant fish which falls from nowhere. It had me rolling in laughter because of his since of humor. The team behind this well-ran campaign managed to engage half of the Internet, and promote almost untouchable results from social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Even the comments on Youtube were overwhelmingly positive and that usually never happens on that website. The Old Spice Twitter account accumulated tens of thousands of new followers and the YouTube video’s sky rocked into the hundreds of thousands of views.
The Old Spice guy recorded his video responses in rapid succession which were a huge hit and an amazing feat in itself that cannot be truly appreciated if you’ve never been in front of a camera. His answers were a key mix of coolness and the stuff Internet sites are made of. The actual brand of Old Spice was never made to force viewers to buy the product but it sure helped when he came on with his positive attitude and hilarious jokes to help promote the Old Spice brand. Most importantly, all the commercials are incredibly fun to watch and suggest everyone take the time to watch at least one. This campaign team went to great links to engage celebrities, influencers, common folk and popular social media sites in balanced quantities to help make Old Spice one of the most popular used products on today’s market. With these commercials and social marketing campaigns it knows exactly how to talk to them. Just from myself watching the commercials made me go out and buy the Old Spice Swagger body wash and try it. Ever since then I have bought Swagger body wash every time I go to Walmart or any other store that carries Old Spice and I haven’t looked back!
